Cape Sounion

High Light from this tour :

The temple of Poseidon in Sounion

Cape Soúnio’s dramatic setting overlooking the Aegean has made it a landmark for centuries to boats sailing between Pireás and the islands.

Its tremendous views and evocative Temple of Poseidon certainly impressed Byron – who carved his name on one of the pillars. Located on the southeastern tip of Attica, 65 km south-east of Athens.

Temple of Poseidon as the last evidence of their civilization when sailing off and the first sight that greeted them when they returned. It certainly would have been a magnificent thing to see in the dawn light.

The sanctuary of Poseidon at Sounio is one of the most important historical sites in Attica.

The site was inhabited in the prehistoric period and is first mentioned in the Odyssey.

Archaeological findings dating back to the 7th century BC prove that organized religion had flourished ion the region.

Afterwards, you will have a chance to swim, to enjoy the breath taken view of the Aegean Sea on your own or having free time for a drink outside the Temple, by the cliff.
